Default e40d valvebody question

E40D valve body questions.

My trans started leaking fluid quite badly the other day (likely at least a few qts) but at least it was parked. I'm hoping its just the pan gasket as thats all it looked like upon inspections.

I drained the fluid and pulled the pan (+1 for installing drain plug last flush) and had a couple questions.

Looking closely at the valve body it appears to be seeping fluid at multiple locations and I was curious if this is common. The gasket between the valvebody and trans leaks at multiple spots quite badly and also some of the "holes" in the underside of the valvebody appear to seep. I don't know much about automatics but I was thinking in park it was odd to see the fluid dripping out of the valvebody.

Is worth noting I've been experiencing intermittant hard shifting typically after longer commutes (45min) and the hard shift is usually between 1st and second then slightly less hard on other shifts.

Is this commonplace or should I start looking for a new valvebody/rebuild kit?

Below are some images pointing out where the leaks are.

Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance.

just recently replaced my leaking pan gasket, trans was rebuilt a year ago, mine had fluid leaking/seeping down from all over including spots you have pointed to, from also working on C4s and C5s I considered it normal, theres a lot of fluid in there and due to the small passages it doesn't just empty out very quickly, as far as the hard shifting I would say that you either have some blocked passages or perhaps a clutch issue, if the tranny was never rebuilt you may be getting close to needing to

Thanks for the reply. I pulled everything apart to replace the sgift plate gaskets and valves. Apparently the stock valves are prone to sticking as they are coated aluminum. They were definately sticky. Replacements are hardened steel. Unfortunately its not back together as one of the gaskets must be for a later model as it doesnt line up. Im also going to route the exhaust further away and install a tranz cooler in hopes of getting more use before a rebuild
