Default Fuel Problems

Have an 88 with an i6 and dual fuel tanks. Yesterday the truck died on me and since I have a broken gas gauge I suspected it was out. It started up a few more times but would die out seconds after starting. Put 5 gallons in each tank but after cranking on both of them it wouldn't start at all. I can hear the tank pumps working when I put the key to accessory. My question is does my truck have an extra pump between the tanks and the engine? I've owned a bronco with the extra pump but not sure if my truck has it. If so, could this be the problem?

Also, I did get the truck running on starting fluid sprayed through the intake, but wouldn't run with out it so I know it's producing spark

If it works with fluid but not without that makes it fuel delivery problem. Yes, you have an in line high pressure pump. You need to get a loaner fuel pressure tester (oreillys, advanced) and test the fuel pressure using the schrader valve on the fuel rail, that is if you don't own your own FP tester.
