Question E40D Help!

Okay, so. My transmission blew up a while ago. I have a 1993 Ford F150 XLT with the 5.0L and E40D Transmission. Someone has a 1996 F150 5.0L with an overdrive tranny in it but it's 2wd and my truck is 4wd. I was wondering if his transmission will work in my truck? (electrical, tailshafts etc.) Thanks for the help in advance!

No, it won't work. Your transfer case won't bolt to it unless you change the tailshaft, which requires complete disassembly of the tranny.

If I had my 4x4 transmission and his 2x4 transmission, how much would it cost for a tranny guy to take my shaft and put it in his? I'm from Canada btw haha. Umm, also, would the tranny from the 96 bolt right up to my 302 in the 93? Because my main reason to get this truck would be for the tranny but it's also good for parts. Like the 5.0L parts and many other things. So, im wondering how hard it would be. Thanks.

It would bolt up to your truck. Changing the tailshaft would require completely disassembling both transmissions and then reassembling the good one. Basically everything required for a rebuild except the added work of taking apart another transmission. Since most places want at least $1000 for a rebuild then I wouldn't expect anyone to do that for less than that.

If both trucks are the same bed length and cab then you could use the driveshaft from the donor truck but then you wouldn't have 4x4.

Okay, thanks for the help. I may just wait and see if I can find a good used 4x4 one. It might be just as easy for me lol.

Since we're talking about the E4OD trans. What would be a good replacement for it mine sucks. I have a 96 with the 302 it has plenty of power but the transmission just fails to get that power to the rear wheels. Is there a tuner or something that can help or should I start looking for a replacement?
Thanks,
Ryan
