Dying at idle
I have a 1996, f150, inline 6, 4.9 truck. I recently have been having some problems of dying when stopping. The truck stalls out a few times, then I restart it, trying to get home, each time it stalls out the battery light then turns on, and after a few times it will not start back up. The truck died, and I decided to replace the battery, thinking that in the process of a previous repair, I decharged the battery too many times, and the alternator could not keep up. So, because the battery light was not on, I thought that I was okay, but then after a day or so the problem came back. I tested the alternator, and it was okay. I can not figure out what the problem is.
To really help, we need a LOT more info about how the truck is built, its history, and the history of this symptom. Click this, read the caption, and then fill in your signature:

Locate the idle air control unit on the top of the throttle body. Remove it and clean the "pintle" and the bore in the throttle body of any built up carbon. Carb cleaner/ throttle body cleaner works. I have to do this every few years. A more complete job, get a new throttle body gasket and remove the throttle body assy. and also clean the throttle butterfly and the interior of the T.B.. A soft toothbrush with carb cleaner will do.
