Unhappy Duel Tanks

Hi, My nameis Milton. I have a 1995 Ford F150 4x4 with duel tanks. I am getting terrible gas milage. The truck runs great and I have had all the sensors checked and also checked for leaks. Everything is fine. Has any one ever heard of the F150 with duel tanks pumping gas between the two tanks giving the impression of either losing gas or getting bad gas milage. I was told that my truck is pumping gas from the front main tank to my seceondary tank giving the impression of either losing gas from the front tank or getting really bad gas milage. If any one has ever heard of this what would be the solution to the problem? Caused by the fuel pumps???

Well you can check to see if this is happening by filling the front tank then running the rear tank to empty then switch to the front tank. After the front tank gets to about 1/4, or enough to get you to a gas station, change back to the rear tank and see if it has fuel in it. If it does then there is something wrong with the changeover valve.

This is deffinately possible. The fuel selector valve when feeding from the front tank is supposed to return fuel to the same tank. Its possible that although the feed is switching tanks the return is not. I don't beleive the valve is repairable, time to spend money.

My 95 is opposite. When I run on the rear tank it transfers to the front. I've never looked into a fix. I figure as long as the front fuel pump stays operational all is ok. I just use the rear as a reserve and use it when the front is at a 1/4.

Thanks for everyones input. I am in the process of running the reserve tank close to empty. Then I am going to fill the front tank to see if it pumps gas into the reserve. I will let you know. It sound like the only thing that needs to be replaced is the change over valve. Correct me if I am wrong.
What about the fuel pumps?

If the engine runs off of each tank, the pumps are OK. They supply fuel to the fuel rail only. They turn on and off at the direction of the selector valve, front tank=front pump, rear tank=rear pump. How the fuel returns to the tank feeding is thru the selector valve. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the front fuel pump isn't working.

I think my friend with the 94 Mark III F150 has that problem, I don't believe we ever did in our 95 though
