Dual Tank Problems
I don't mean to be dredging up a problem that has been already has to death and solved but I can't seem to find the answer that seems right for my situation.
I have a '94 XLT with dual tanks where only the rear tank works. the front tank is full like it seems fuel has transferred from rear to front.
Do I need new check valves, front pump and "diverter plumbing" maybe? I filled the rear tank yesterday and today wanting to check if there was fuel iin the front tank and when I opened in and started to insert a piece of rubber fuel line fuel started overflowing the front filler neck. So is my fuel plumbing, valves and pump bad in at least the front tank and possibly the rear tank and these parts need to be replaced?

Same as everyone else, you need the front fuel pump assembly.
Not trying to sound like an @$$, so I apologize if it comes out that way.
Yep. While you are replacing the pump, check the tank for rust. if it is bad, you probably want to replace the tank, or else you will be buying another fuel pump in a few months! I learned that the hard way!
On a side note, I think someone needs to do a full write up, describing problems with dual tanks, and what the solution is for the most common problems. Then we get it made a sticky so it stays up top. This is such a common problem on these trucks.

I can understand wanting to ask the question again. Everyone thinks their problem is special, different from everyone elses. Then there's the hundreds of threads you get when you search, and who wants to sift through all those? I guess I'd feel more comfortable dropping $150+ for a fuel pump when a few people told me specifically that it is my problem.

Thanks for the info guys. It's not that I think my problem is unique it 's just that I heard so many parts and terminology that I wasn't sure what to do first. I think doing a write up on dual tank problems and solutions would be a very good idea and make it a sticky. I think I may just change the whole lot with the front tank so I can make sure it will work properly.
