Default Dome, Cargo Kill Switch

How can I install a switch in my '95 that will allow me to kill the dome and cargo lights? I want to install a push button switch on the dash that will allow me to turn these lights off so I can go into "stealth mode". I don't always want them to come on when I open the doors. I was going to wire a switch up to the fuse, but according to the manual, the courtesy dome fuse #8 also kills the speedometer.

That's an idea, but I wanted to be able to have the door switches work if needed. Any other way to do it? It's really just for hunting season that I want to keep things dark.

Do you really need the speedometer to work with the door open?

you want door switches to work and auxillary switch aswell? if you just want them for hunting then simply unplug switch at door. theirs already a switch inside the cab that turns on and off cab light, its on the headlight ****.

My old Blazer has a three way dome/map light with a switch on the dome light itself where I can turn it off of automatic and it doesn't come on when I open the doors or the rear hatch. If I load the kids up or the wife is getting in and out, I turn the light switch to auto and it works as normal with the doors and rear hatch opened and closed. The cab light on the f-150 works off of the dome, so I guess I could try to find that same style dome light and wire the cab light to it. Just wanted a simple switch to bypass the door switches if I wanted. Thinking about it now, I guess I could pull the interior dome light, find the hotwire and install an on/off switch right there by it. Probably be the easiest I guess.

Missed your post Scraptor. If I pull the fuse to kill the dome light, I'll lose the speedo all together. I haven't tested that yet, but the manual says that the courtesy dome light fuse also controls the speedo.

I believe he is saying you can install a switch at the fuse. Switch off, lights, speedo off, door open. Switch on, door closed, speedo on

Yeah, but generally speaking, if I'm in the truck, the dome will probably be off all the time, therefore, no speedo all the time. Didn't mean for this to get this technical. Just a feature on my Chevy that I would like on my Ford.

Unit505 you are correct about fuse number 8. It will kill the speedo, odometer, dome light, and cargo light. I would say just install a switch right at the dome light on the roof that intercepts the hot wire going to dome/cargo lights.
