Question Distributor rubber piece.

I have a 1992 302 and i was messing with the distributor the other day and i took a rubber cap thing off and lost it. its not one of the wires, its covering an opening of some kind. If anyone could explain to me what this is that would be great and do i actually need the rubber piece on there?

It’s a vent for the cap it lets any moisture in the cap evaporate and keeps pressure from building up under cap. Yeah it needs to be on to keep moisture from getting in the cap through the opening.
