If there is excessive play or the gear is stripped or damage most everything on a dis can be replaced for a lot cheaper than a new one you can even replace the rod and gear so if your brave and careful pull it and look at the housing for wear spots or damage.

i can take the housing in one hand, and grab the geat with the other and move it in and out, clack clack clack. feels kinda loose. and i can move it side to side a little more than it seems like it should too. loose enough it rubs the pip when i have it in the truck turning over. my pip is **** in pretty sure. dont wanna go through the trouble of replacing it if id just be better off with another dist.

Are you saying there's a small amount of vertical lash in the shaft going down to the pump? If so, as far as I know that's 100% normal. If they rotate independently that's a huge problem, but if the assembly can simply push up and down a fraction of an inch that's precisely how mine behaves.

yeah. autozone is about the only parts place i can get to. and from my experience with their **** being so hit and miss, ive got just as good a chance of my stuff working from a junkyard. and the junk stuff is a lot cheaper. often free. theres an old man just outside town that ive known for years. the most he's ever charged me for somethin was 20 bucks. and that was for a diamond plate tool box for a truck. lol. usually he just gives me the stuff cause he gets tired of lookin at it. he has so much crap it's unreal. but if you dig long enough, somethin good always turns up out there. hell, he'll give you a complete engine for 50 if he likes you. he's 70 somethin and jut likes it when people come lookin for somethin, so he can have someone to talk to. says someones time and conversation is worth more to him now than money ever has been.

yeah he knows his stuff. thats for sure. he's helped me out a few times......and i know it should mive up and down a little. but i seriously dont think it should move like this. and i dont think it should be loose enough side to side to move like that. im just gonna get another one from a junk yard.
