dash change write up
So I had a few hours to myself the other day and decided to get a few things. Here I 'll chronicle how to change your steering wheel, clockspring, wiper/MF switch and instrument cluster, for one with a tach. Not hard work, 1 banana on scale to 5, just tedious and being methodical. I've seen a few posts about changing these things but no write ups so here we go. Maybe put it in the how to section. My wheel was ripped up, I wanted a tach, and my MF switch is not mutli-functioning
So after you get your parts together, the only special tools you'll need is steering wheel puller, torque wrench and a torx bit set. If you want to call a 7/32 socket special then fine. I've noticed it's not in a lot of cheapie sets. Everything else is basic hand tools.
So you'll start with disconnecting the battery, then moving to the interior, on the back side of the steering wheel is four nuts that hold the airbag on
. After you remove those four nutsthe airbag will come out and you will have 2 electrical connectors to disconnect. One for the airbag, and the one connects the clock spring
. After that, you need to remove the bolt in the middle here
. once that's done, set your wheel puller up
. Now remove the wheel
. Remove the 3 screws that hold on the clock spring. Pay attention here, the clock spring can go on one of two ways, so install the new one the same way. Now put everything back together. When you lock down the wheel, the toque specs are right on it. Hope your light goes out.Once the wheel is off then proceed here https://www.f150forum.com/f10/changing-dash-46962/
