Default Custom Cam Grind

Im not liking the cam in my truck and was thinking to go with a custom grind but need some ideas. My truck is a 95 302 auto 2wd with 3.31 rear. Also has fresh gt40 irons with dual rate springs and shorty headers, thats about it for mods. Need a grind that gets power right off idle, not worried about the higher rpm's as it doesnt see much above 4000. Dont mind some lope at idle. I'll probably just stick with 1.6 rockers.

Give me some help specing a cam that will work for this application. Hoping with the experience around here someone will have some decent ideas.

Ive been talking with Cam Research in Colorado. They have some great reviews for the product they put out. For my application he has a grind that works well for torque and has alot out on the road.

Part No. CR266
200 I 205 E Duration
.430 I .450 E Lift
112 LSA

This was designed as a stock replacement with more torque, quality idle and drivabilty in mind. We talked about increasing the lift. He said if you go above .480 with the small duration it will get noisey. Basically just valve clatter with the steep ramp rates. Makes sense as none of the big names dont seem to make a cam that wont lope or make some noise.

Anyone have an opinion?

That's an option.... But not much duration or lift... That's nearly a HO cam..

EDIT: here's the specs for a Stock H.O. Cam..

208 intake @.050"
212 exhaust @.050"
.444" lift intake/exhaust
116 LSA. < this is all over board depending on cam.. Some are as low as 112 some high as 118. But 116 was the spec they should've been..

That's why some sound more rowdy than others..

I'm wanting a cam design that will bring the torque on as soon as you step on the gas. Somewhat like the 300. Not sure if it's possible with a 302 or not, but I love the immediate power of the i6.

It would be even better if all the top end power isn't sacrificed.

Really ya for what ya got with a 302.. Ya can improve it some, but never be in same league as a 300..

The HO cam. Duration is even at 216 and 116 LSA. Problem is my 3.31 gears. Never know I might like it with 3.73 or 4.10, I have thought of switching that instead. It runs great above 2500.

Advance the cam.. Like 4*.. It'll help a load..

And a gear swap will help also.. Gets the rpms up quicker which will do the 5.0 do it's thing.

Cam is advanced fully on 9 keyway. Truck with lots of torque and low rpm is probably more practical, but high rev'n get after it power can be alot of fun.

An old racer told me to set the cam with a compression gauge , advance or retard until you get your best reading and run it there.
