curious question about the L6s
Has anyone ever blown a L6 engine? I was thinking that my truck didn't come with a tachometer so it would make it a bit more difficult to see the redline. so has it happened? or are they that Bullet Proof?
i've never heard of anyone blowing one, they wear out.
i've heard stories about people draining the fluids and running them until the manifolds woudl glow red and it never would lock up. but i'm not sure hw believe able that is.
i do know i had one in highschool and when i got paid every2 weeks i would go but a 5 quart jug of oil and pour it in and you could hear it run down and hit the oil pan. anad when you popped off the cap smoke would come rolling out of it.
that motor is still on the road in a mid 80's tow truck that gets used everyday.

I beleve that i know one had the oil pan split in to and wouldn't hold a drop of oil he drove it 500 miles back home it screeched and squealed but made it home it didn't start up the next day though after 6 quarts but still not bad for that engine
I drove mine for 30 or so miles with the temperature gauge pegged on hot, engine knocking and rattling away. When it stalled I popped the clutch to restart it because the starter wouldn't do it anymore. Kept going until it wouldn't go anymore. My friend helped me pull it home the last two miles and when we got close I popped the clutch and it purred like a kitten, but the starter was melted.

I am glad i got the L6 i was leaning towards the 5.0 v8 but then i heard about the L6s low end torque is almost the same as the v8s and there bullet proof so i got mine
