If you take your time and do the trimming properly, the Metra kit is just fine. If you have the extra money burning a hole in your pocket, the OBS interiors kit is the way to go. I MIGHT do one myself.... But a single DIN with Bluetooth is all I really need. That being said, we have a double DIN with nav in our 96 Explorer, and in our 2005 Focus, and I love them both.

I've seen both kits in person and haven't been impressed with either - My advice would be to buy a magnet mount for your phone and put it on the right side of the dash bezel, then get a regular single DIN head unit with bluetooth. Your phone can serve as your media center/GPS, and it will always have updated GPS maps, audio programs, etc.

agreed. definitely, the trimming is important. i had ti shave away some to get a good fit. i'm going to keep my truck until it goes to the junkyard. plus side, was able to cut a piece of of the dash frame that i removed to brace up where th ac controls screw in that broke. if i find the a good deal, the old girl will get nav too, just because.

Yeah, but it won't work as a backup camera. Only double-DIN can do that (effectively). And the larger screen makes nav & audio control MUCH easier, without requiring you to carry a giant phone around. I've been happy with my KDC-X997/8s up to now, but I really want the larger screen in the truck I'm building (or NOT building at the moment). Now that radios are linking more-thoroughly to BT phones (i.e., AndroidAuto, CarPlay, etc.), you don't have to keep the phone visible on the dash - it can simply be thrown onto a charging pad, out of the way.

I'm keeping my eye out in the local yards for a later model F150 that has the backup cam built into the rear view mirror - when one shows up I am going to snag it up for just that purpose. There are a few aftermarket ones that look decent too, but quite pricey.

I assume you mean "monitor" - not "camera" - in the RV mirror. But I don't think Ford ever offered anything like this:
Amazon Amazon
...because it confuses an already-confusing (for many people) reversed image. And there are some cheaper ones - that's just the first link I grabbed.

Yep the display is in the mirror, not the camera - I've seen them in 2008-2010 F150's, and I am pretty sure they were offered in Vans and other vehicles as well Ford offered around that timeframe.
