cruise control no brake response

OK - put in a new switch and I got the brake lights back. However, I now have no cruise control. What? So with the old switch, no brake light but cruise worked. This doesn't appear to make sense. Fuse has Brake lights, hazards and cruise all on #1. Hazards work, brake lights work. Argh! Help?
