Default Cruise Control

I have an 89 4x4 XLT and looking to get my cruise control working. The fuse is fine. My horn works. I have an idea that it's either the cruise control itself needs to be replaced or it's the wiring. One of the past owners had a breathalyzer installed into it because he was an alcoholic and the wiring underneath is messed up but not sure if it messed up the cruise control. Everything on the steering wheel works. Except the key ignition. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same truck as you. Even with a working CC, I don't know if I would trust a 25 yo system. Too much to go wrong at highway speeds.

Also, a new key ignition cost $15 at the parts strore. You don't even need to pull the steering wheel to install it.

That's why I was thinking of replacing the entire CC itself.

The ignition turns and all because I use it to unlock the steering wheel but the wiring underneath the dashboard is messed up. I wired an ignition and switch and push start into it.

Yeah, I would go that route.

I don't see a problem with trusting an old cruise control system, I can see why in the back of your head it may be a little hard to, but all should be well.

Also I would like to point out that no lights come on on my dashboard or anything. Another reason why I believe it could be the wiring. Maybe even the switch.

Yes everything works. Breaklights and emergency flashes work.

Check and see if your wiring harness from your brake switch has a fuse in it. Mine was blown and required a new harness.
