A couple Q's for those of you with 4x4's
So this is my first 4x4 so I'm still trying to understand what's normal and what's not. I did a break job this morning and replaced the rotors, pads, repacked the bearings and installed Warn premium hubs. That being said, hopefully some of you knowledgeable folks can help me out with a few things...
First things first, 94 5.8 4x4, E4OD
1) when pounding the lug studs into the new rotors/hub I got the studs in as far as they would go but there is a slight amount of play between the two back and forth. Just like the rotor on a FWD car has on its hub. Normal?
2) when putting it in 4WD I hit the button, I hear the click on the passenger side but no "clunk" underneath. Normal for 4H? I do hear the clunk of the transfer case in 4L though.
3) in 4L when driving slow it's fine until the rpms get up to 1700-1800 then it almost feels like it's slipping (the rpms raise but vehicle speed slows until it shifts), the shifts are faster and happen at lower rpms than normal. Normal? The trans doesn't slip or have any issues otherwise.

Drive like you stole it
I wouldn't worry about the 4 low thing. It's called low for a reason. Your engine is winging away at high rpm but the wheels are barely turning. It's not gonna feel normal if your trying to move quickly.

I don't have a push button 4x4 so I can't say for sure but is it actually in 4 high? Don't worry about what noises it makes. You will know if the front wheels are engaged, you should feel it in the steering wheel when turning and such. Especially on dry pavement (keep that to a minimum it's not good for the system).
