Default Coolant Leak

I am in some need of some help...

Tonight I found a couple of puddles of coolant under the 96 150 so I went under and found that it was coming from 2 lines right behind the front pass wheel from 2 lines located right in front of the 2 exhaust pipes as they bend over towards the drivers side (If a pik is needed I can provide tomorrow) I am curious where the coolant could be leaking from..

Any ideas where to begin??

Jay

Default Coolant leak

One thought comes to mind. Heater hoses or heater core.

Hrm...heater core comes to mind. Do you have a leak inside the passenger compartment as well?

Yea, I thought heater core as well, but there is nothing inside the truck but its dumping a pretty good amount of fluid the last couple days.

Thanks

Check around the hose clamps. You might just have a bad hose. Look for obvious cracks and bulging near the connections. Of course, you could always turn the truck on, climb under neath and look.

I recently had the same problem on my 96 f150 5.8L. It had a good size puddle underneath. Located the leak @ the lower water pump gasket. The next day, the leak stopped and just resealed itself!!!! So my new water pump is ready to go in but now i just got some extra time!!! Thanks to my self fixing F-150. But now my exhaust pipe just snapped @ the weld... wish that cant reweld itself... darn. But check the weep hole on the waterpump... also check the gasket. check the hoses. Wipe off the anti freeze, start your truck, climb underneath (wear eye protection) and look for the leak. Good Luck!

Don't know if your's is the same as mine, on my 95 5.8 there are the small hoses that run off the lower radiator hose to towards the motor. Cant remember where they where attached to but coolant did run throug them. Check the clamps on those if yours is set up like this as that is where mine was leaking from.

My girlfriends Taurus has this same setup and leaked after I changed the o-ring. I pulled it apart and heavily coated the o-ring with RTV and it doesn't leak now.

Those 2 small hoses go to the oil cooler... on 2 of the 5.8L i owned the lower radiator hose went bad in the exact same place on both trucks... The lower radiator hose is actually a 2 piece setup. The lower end of the hose that connects to the bottom of the radiator and connects to the oil cooler has a plastic piece that pushes into the other half of the lower radiator hose. That plastic is what goes bad and the fluid leaks from there and runs down the hose making it hard to find where the leak is coming from... And those 2 pieces together are pretty expensive, at oreillys together they are over $100 for Gates http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/Displ...ycleCount=1389, but they are cheaper at Advanced Auto...
