Connected? Speedo/odometer/cruise/int & cargo lights - all dead
I have been restoring a 1995 f-150 XL 5 litre / 5 spd...lots of fun...huge progress...but I am hitting a wall...
No speedometer (lifeless needle)...odometer not showing (dark)...Cruise not working...no interior lights...no cargo lights...no high beams...and the air bag light is flashing...
I have checked the power distribution box fuses - all good.
I have checked the interior fuse panel - all good.
I replaced the headlight switch (the reostat for dash dimming was shot)...still nothing.
I have searched the forums...found a tip on shorter screws for interior light...laughed & changed them...still nothing.
I am wondering if this is all related...I am stumped...

As an update...I found a note on the forum to check codes in the od by pressing the rest while turning the key on...which produced nothing...so I am thinking maybe I have a dead speedo unit...we'll try that and post whatever I find...here's hoping.
Someone stop me if you know a dfferent (aka the right one) answer!

On my 92 all of that runs off the same fuse someone had did some wiring on it and shorted out the circuit melting the wires, took 2 days of tracing and rewiring to get everything back up and going. It was the #8 fuse on the inside block. On mine the wire was a small green/yellow wire. went back and reread your post the headlights shouldn't be on that circuit.

Cool man...I'll dig around for something of that nature...I noticed some wires hanging - of no known origin...and a couple of dead toggle switches...so someone has buggered with the wiring.

Dead end on the melted wire scenario...toggles & aftermarket wiring were unrelated.
I am wondering if all of this circuit runs into the speedo...if it was caput, then maybe? How would I verify whether or not the speedo was ok?

might sound silly but unplug the harness going through the firewall, possibly the connectors are corroded or loose, also go through some other connectors.

On mine there were I believe seven different wires together in the circuit that joined together in the harness about center ways under the dash with the power wire from the fuse block. They went to the light switch for the dome ligh, cruise, speedometer cluster,to the door switchs, warning beeper, glove box light and radio.

Cool - I am okay with checking both of these...thanks for the tips.
We can throw the headlight situation out...who would have thought - BOTH high beam elements are blown in the bulbs at the same time.
The high beams weren't on the same circuit...much of the rest is.
I'm off to check the wiring harness connections
