Default Coffee cans

I am cleaning up my engine bay. I have two canisters that look like tin cans. Anyone successful in removing and not affecting operation of the engine?

One is the vacuum reservoir which is absolutely necessary. The other is the smog pump "muffler" which is necessary if you still have a smog pump.

Some trucks have a second vacuum reservoir on the passenger fenderwell.

I removed my smog pump awhile ago so the muffler went with it, and I relocated the vac reservoir to the factory location on the driver fenderwell. It requires a complete replacement and re-route of vacuum lines. But it cleared up a lot of room on the passenger fenderwell, where I now have an aftermarket fuse/relay box.

Then keep them both.

I don't understand why you have your mind set on discarding the vacuum cans.

The vacuum can is needed to run the EGR system and the air pump valves, he's removed all that I'd say strip the vacuum reservoir also. Trucks like this are only one breakdown away from the wrecking yard anyway. No offense intended but when the emissions equipment gets stripped a vehicle most likely won't be fixed when a major breakdown happens and they also lose all resale value.

He still has his EGR and the second can is probably for the cruise control....if I recall correctly some earlier trucks had a second can just for the cruise control. I have only seen them in the engine bays of the inline 6.

This is the right way to do that:

Yes: everyone whose engine was already ruined. In that case, removing parts can't make it any worse.

In all other cases: no. Ford doesn't build working vehicles, and then sprinkle on extra parts just for fun. They only install the parts needed to make it run right. Remove some, and it won't. The more you remove, the worse it will run (IF it still runs). Read this article.

I left the egr . This is my third truck of this series. All of them still run perfect. My goal is a clean easy to repair truck with basic upgrades.
