As Sean said. Replace the ECT & see what more than 10-11 mpg is like!

Thanks, I just looked at it and yes I did see it mounted horizontally with a black and green wired connector going to it. so if code 51 is given then this sensor should be replaced?

If you where at norm op. temp & the connection / wiring was good! W/o it, you stay in warm up mode w/ no ECU fuel trim!

Any code for any particular sensor doesn't mean replace the sensor. It gives you things to check. That particular code you would want to check the wiring and connections and then the sensor. I said I would change it, because the sensor is cheap.

I do know its up to the right temp drove it for about 3 hours before testing, mechanical gauge says 210th. I did not check to see if the connector is tight i'll do that tomarrow. The sensor does look new as the brass is shiny. I agree about the price its about 15 at local parts store.

Thanks ymeski56 for that link. Good info.

First thing I replaces on my 87' when I got it even w/o the code.. Cause it's cheap & a rather important sensor in the grand scheme of things.

210F operating temp? Doesn't give you much room for increased temps while under load! Did you flush your system! What T-stat temp did you replace w/ after you overheated?

Has new radiator, pump, hoses and a 195 t-stat. My dads 87 has the same temp as well as my 73 dart.I pulled my hat boat with truck and outside temp is 95 and never got above 210.

I made an error last night on my last post, temp gauge slowly goes up to 200 and while driving it will drop to 195 then back to 200.

After replacing the ect the truck now idles about 700 rpm and its smoother. Check engine light is now off.

Ran another code check KOEO code 11, KOEO and now codes 12, 16 and 52. No check engine light showing.

That's more like it.

So during KOEO, you got an #11, then continuous memory codes 12,16 & 52?

Or more likely they (12,16 & 52) were KOER codes!
