Default Clutch Question

I have a 87 F150. 4.9 with a 4 speed.
My clutch has started slipping in 3rd and 4th, so being pretty sure that there is no adjustment on the clutch, I'm planning to replace it.

Problem is, I start looking at parts and see that there are 2 different clutches, an 11" and a 10". Due to this being my daily driver, I can't take the clutch out and then order it.

How do I know which one to get without taking the clutch out?

Thanks,
Gary

Understand your question, don't understand why Ford doesn't have both in stock? If I'm not mistaken, either will fit the flywheel, just the surface area is smaller not the bolt pattern.

Oh, both are available, just don't know which one. I was thinking that both would fit, but just wanted to be sure before ordering. Gonna go ahead and replace the flywheel too as I have no idea how many actual miles are on the truck and don't want to get it apart and see that I need a flywheel.

Thanks for the answer.

That's right bigger is better! The bigger one is used for towing over 8200gross vehicle weight or something like that. It's more heavy duty.

Well my 4.9 with the 4 spd (granny low in first) ain't no racing machine.

But it is a pulling machine. Will probably go with the 11"

My clutch is on its last leg too and I have a similar set up. Word around the beer cooler is that the 11" is probably the way to go, but the drawback is that it will be a little tougher to operate (uses more leg force).

But that's just guessing.

If its a hydraulic clutch, you probably wont feel the difference.
