Default clutch help!!

thanks for all your help guys I replace the silenoid and the truck started right up. I then took it to a local shop to check out my brake issues. they said the rear brakes were shot with cylnders leaking and the works, they wanted 800 BUCKS to fix it!!! long long long story short I have it at les schwab right now and they are doing the same thing for 400.

heres my question though, the rip off guys told me that they think my slave may be going out (they wanted 700 for that) said they think its leaking. well i am not in a position to fix it right now, can I get by with just replacing the fluid for a bit? if so where do I put it?

also they said that the mounting braket that holds up the clutch and brake pedal is broken in half and that may have something to do with my clutch not wanting to always go it gear.

please help you guys are great!!!

John

You can continue adding fluid (to the clutch master cylinder) as long as it will continue working. Eventually it will go out all the way and you will be stranded, or you will have to drive home without the clutch. I know my bracket was pretty worn out, but it didn't break in half. The steering column, clutch and brake master cylinders, and power brake booster all must come out to replace it. There also is a problem with the firewall of our year trucks, they weaken over time and required a recall to add a thicker steel plate to it.

If the slave is leaking you will see brake fluid coming from the bellhousing. The slave is concentric, meaning inside the bellhousing, so the tranny has to come out to replace it.

Mine was worn to the point where the pedals were about to come off. Here's a pic from when I replaced mine:

This is at the point where the pedals are out. The cluster had to come out to unhook the speedometer cable ('87-'91), which passed through the bracket.
