Default clutch help

yeah i got a question about my clutch...

so yesterday i was getting some ice cream with my girlfriend and i get out and leave my truck running, and i hear it ticking and clacking.... so im like great what the **** is wrong now... long story short, i push the clutch in and the ticking noise stops. so when its in neutral at a stop, it ticks and whines from the tranny area.... what can this be? throwout bearing? it cant be my transmission it self right?

more than likely the throwout bearing.... had one start doing that in my 95 mustang about 2 years ago.... i never did mess with it at all and sold the car about 3 months ago.... if its not the throwout bearing, then it might be the pressure plate.... i could be wrong though lol i very HIGHLY doubt its the whole tranny though

the sound stops when i push the clutch in like an inch... dont even have to go all the way down to where it grabs for the sound to stop

yep, sounds to me like you have a throwout bearing problem.... some squeek, some chatter, and some just make all different kinds of noises. If you push the clutch pedal down about 1/2 inch or more then it will stop.... that sounds like your problem.... it'll get so bad that when you push your pedal to the floor, it'll be hard to get in gear... you'll have to let up about an inch off the floorboard to get it in gear.... thats how it was with mine anyways

ill just buy a clutch kit, new slave, and a new flywheel screw it

Not to add confusion, when a trans is in neutral and clutch engaged the front input shaft is turning with the clutch disc. When you depress the clutch pedal it disengages the clutch and the input shaft stops turning. Prior to hydraulic clutches it was easier to differentiate between t/o bearings and front input shaft bearing.

yeah bill is corect so you might have a bigger prob then you think usualy the t/o bearing makes noise when its engaged sometimes it makes noises when not but thats cause its slightly touching and if it was the t/o it would get worse when u pushed in the clutch not get better but i hope its the t/o and not the input bearing good luck

the amount that i push the clutch in for the noise to stop isnt enough to make it disengage, not even close... it seems like the noise would stop if i blew hard enough on the clutch pedal, thats how little i have to touch it for the noise to stop... if it were the input shaft bearing, wouldnt it still make noise until the clutch is fully disengaged??

Since you do not have to fully disengage the clutch to stop the noise only slight pressure it is more likely the throw out bearing, or possibly the fingers on the pressure plate are worn slightly.
