Default Chime stays on while driving

93 f150 xlt 5.0 auto...Was washing the truck the other day and noticed the cargo light and overhead light were on as if the door were ajar. Opened and shut driver door to make it turn off. Had to repeat this a couple of times.

A while later, while on the road the chime started all on its own. While driving down road opening and shutting door seemed to fix it. Then once it was passenger door. (not sure which, if any or all, were coincidences) After this, nothing turned off the chime, but the overhead light was coming on and turning off correctly with both driver and passenger doors, just the chime stayed on. I had to pull the fuse (#8, which is second from top left of fuse panel by steering wheel) but that killed my mileage display as well as speedometer.

Is this an ignition chime short or a door switch short. The rubber over the button at door jamb is torn; not sure if water actually made it to this through the rubber weatherstripping but it could have also been cargo light short as I washed up there on roof too.

Side question, is my correct mileage being recorded while this fuse is out?

Probably door switches sticking.

But can it partially stick like that meaning the chime sticks but not the lights? The door panel lights, overhead light, and cargo light all turn on and off when doors are open, and shut off when door is shut.

Are you sure it's chiming for the door and not for the headlights or the key in the ignition?

But the chiming occurs while the vehicle is in gear and cruising down the road. Nothing I do turns off the chiming except pulling the fuse. I don't have the headights running when the chiming is on, so maybe its not that. It could be an ignition chime short?

The only reason I initially suspected door chime short was when I washed truck the overhead light and cargo light were on when the doors were in fact shut. Reslamming the door also worked on the chiming while cruising problem but only like the first two times the problem occured. But remember the door switch still operates the lights, so is that really the problem either?

My wife says my truck has spazzed out, lol. The truck is like its owner :-)

All of those chimes work through the door switch anyways. I was trying to think outside the box.

i had that problem before in other car.... some corrosion-x, wd-40, or fluid film on those door switchs could help... maybe rusting inside.

picaflor- Thanks, i'll try that first thing in the morning. Will report back the results.

Sean, my daughter was poking at your avatar and asking what it was. Told her you were a funny dude. Forgot to tell her thats where I got the idea for the mini truck I built (its the 95 ford xlt, comes with two sets of wheels and the tailgate chrome trim and headlights look cool/real ).

Thanks for thinking outside the box. I will add these items on the checklist.
