Default Check Engine light

My check engine comes on while I'm driving about 20-30 minutes. Once I turn it off and start her back up, it's off. Doesn't act any different when it's on. Any thought? Should I care or just ignore it?

^ +1.

If you know someone or some parts shop that will read the OBD-I codes - gitter dun. If not, there's the do-it-yourself method described in the sticky note linked above.

More than likely, nothing serious - offhand guessing something with the EGR valve not achieving the desired position. But - do you want to take the risk breaking down somewhere when the computer was doing all it could to warn you?

Will it read it if it's not up? Or should I drive her til it's up then read it?

It should be stored as a continuous memory code.
