cant decide on a/c compressor

witch one do yall think I should go with, my a/c went out and I need to fix before summer time, anything else yall think I should replace while im swapping it out? thanks for any help

I replaced mine last year with a Murry that had a similar clutch plate design and it has worked fine. Someone told me there is a diode in the electric line that should be replaced, but I never did. My alternator went bad and replaced it and have not had a problem since. Never did replace the diode. Might be a problem when summer kicks in.

well I was thinking of going motor craft and I don't understand the difference between two of them besides the price and you didn't replace the condenser or anything?
I just did this on my 96 F150. To do it right, when you replace the compressor, you also need to replace the accumulator/drier and the orifice tube, and you should get a new set of gaskets. the gaskets are special material, and green in color. You should flush out the system and replace with new oil and refrigerant. This is the correct way to do it. Since it is such a pain in the a** to do, I went with the motorcraft compressor. It was a lot more expensive (twice the money), but i don't want to have to do it again.
Since I don't have an A/C flush system, I talked to the local garage, and arranged a deal: I installed the new compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator drier (I did not attach any hoses or anything), gave him the new gasket set, and he flushed the system and added the refigerant and closed the system up. All for $100. Rock Auto has a kit (aftermarket compressor, o-ring kit, accumulator/drier, and orifice) for about $150 total:

A new Motorcraft compressor with clutch cost me about $260 alone. I went with aftermarket o-ring kit, and accumulator/drier just because there aren't any moving parts to speak of to break. I bought a Motorcraft orifice just because there was only a few dollar diffenrce between that and aftermarket. All told, with the parts I mentioned and the $100 fee, I spent about $400-$425. I spent an hour installing the components. might sound like a lot, but it should be good enough that I won't have to deal with it again.

For instance, I have to replace the fuel delivery module in one of my gas tanks. The Motorcraft FDM is like $400, aftermarket about $100. However, since I don't want to have to take the tank down again and disconnect all fuel lines, etc, I'm going with the Motrocraft. I'll get aftermarket tank and straps though because there is not a lot that can go wrong wioth those parts.
That's why I got the Motorcraft compressor, and went aftermarket with the rest.

Thank you for all the info man it was just what I was looking for,someone who had done it already,i know that motorcraft is better but in the link that I put up I was wondering witch motorcraft compressor to go with sense the price difference is so much? sense you paid 260 im assuming that you got the remanufactured one right? and as far as other parts you didn't need a condenser?
Where I don't doubt anything that "joegeds" wrote (he seemed very knowledgeable about it) I just replaced the compressor with the Murry. It was cheap and does the job. I had a friend that works at a body shop who vacuumed out the lines and refilled. All he charged me for was the coolant, in which he charged me $40. I'm sorry to say but I didn't even replace the o-rings. I like to drive with the window open so I don't use it heavily, but it works when I need it. Only time will tell how long it lasts.
