If empty get 3 cans of refrigerant, and just buy the hose with the colored gauge, your system is probably r12, you can use r134a in your system as long as its completely dry and buy the adapter for the schrader valve, or buy the dryer and evacuate the system then put in the r134a.

it has been retrofitted to 134. so 3 cans? what size? there are about 2 different sizes, and the compressor still cuts on just not enough freon to make it cold...

3 small cans or two of the taller cans, I usually get a charge out of the smaller cans. Also you might have to purge a little air out, put some in, push the shrader valve to release a little air that might be in the system.
