Default Break problem...Locking Up

Hello,

I have read a lot of posts out there about the breaks locking up and none have seemed to help me yet. I have a 96 f150. The rear passanger drum is locking up on me. If i go in reverse it moves freely, however as soon as i try to go forward it continues to stay locked up. After i drive it for a while it seems to loosen up but i can still feel it draging. I have replaced the shoes, drums, brake cylinders, and all the hardware. Still no fix. I have tried to loosen the self adjuster as much as possible and the problem still persists.....running out of ideas...... any suggestions would be great!

Perhaps have a look at the parking brake actuator/lever. What you describe sounds a lot like the cable not releasing.

Sounds like a proportioning valve.

Did you break the bleeder loose and see if it has a blockage? Maybe smashed line?

Make sure the SMALLEST shoe is pointing towards the front of the truck....if its on the rear side it will stay energized.

Also axle grease leaking and getting on the shoes will cause instant lock ups once the peddle is slightly pushed so make sure the Axle seals arent leaking fluid into the brakes.

properly adjusted brakes with the hardware on right are normal...make sure teh hardware is on correctly...if the hardware is on backwards it will tighten in forward and loosen in reverse...
