Default Brakes

Got a 90 f150 xlt lariat i6. After it rains and gets nice and wet outside the brakes get veeeeery touchy. When i even press just a touch on the pedal the brakes grab immediately and hard. It settles down after driving a short time. They also squeal but only when its wet or heavily humid. Any ideas? Thanks!

I can only think of 2 things. Possibly your pads are bad and becoming swollen with water? Or your tires are bad making you loose traction. Is your rear antilock ( if equipped ) activating?

Not sure if it is activating or not. Tires are pretty new. Im taking automotive classes in college but havent gotten to braking systems yet. Are the brake pads porous enough to take in moisture? They have probably not been replaced in 8+ years..

If your brakes haven't been inspected in 8+ years i would get on that A.S.A.P!! Usually when brakes are cold they grab faster than when they are warmed up.

Is recommend pulling off the calipers and drums and inspect everything. Break problems often leave visual evidence.

I have the same issue and still have no idea what it could be my abs system works great brand new tires the next step is new pads and shoes to see if that will fix it.
