Default brake lights

so, most of my research is saying multifunction switch. my turn signals, tail lights and license plate lights are fine. everything on the switch works (wipers). i dont have power to the brake light switch. i really dont have the extra cash to put in this truck until my other one sells (mortgage, food, etc.) so how about i just run a hot wire to the brake light switch? any other ideas what could be the problem? both flashers are good, fuse is good....

so, i called autozone for the switch. they asked if i had electronic flashers. (anyone know how to tell?). i took the switch in. it looked exactly like the one they had in stock (non electronic flashers). but, it also looked exactly like the pic of the one with electronic flashers. anyway, i bought it, installed it and... the problem changed! i went from no flashers and brake lights to- still no brake lights, sometimes turn signals and sometimes flashers. ! fuse is still good, still no power to the brake light switch...

That was amazing - you went from start to finish as the only contributor to this thread!

So..... if you light a cigarette, do the flashers come on?

Congrats man, you stayed with it. Please, when time permits, tell us where the actual problem is or was.

yeah. im kinda wandering about the only contributor thing. ive asked a handfull of questions and havent gotten much response. must be 'cause im the new guy. as far as lighting a smoke with the flashers on... knowing my luck, probably. i'll let you know what i find when/if i get around to fixing it correctly. im guessing theres a bad connection somewhere before the fuse box. my luck hasnt gone so well on this one so far. i usually go to orieleys for parts but they didnt have the switch in stock. autozone did so i figured i would get plugs, cap and rotor while i was there. they forgot to give them to me so i made a second trip... that time they gave me some other random part instead of the cap. im going to run down here in awhile to exchange it. i really need to check stuff before i leave.
