Axle Question
Hey guys, I want to put a truck axle under my 5 by 10 ft trailer. Either one from a half ton or a 3/4 ton ford. Ill probably put heavier leafs on it, or aux springs. My question is how much weight will a half ton rear axle hold up to? How about a 3/4 ton axle?? Thanks a lot guys
Thats what I was wondering, How much can I safely haul with it? I could get an trailer axle but the size I need only offers a 2000 pound axle. A truck axle would fit perfectly under it, and I would imagine that it would be rated more than 2000 pounds

The axle will be more then fine, its the rest of the trailer you need to worry about and what its even rated for. 5x10 is more medium duty and its gonna sit stupid high with a truck axle under it from the lack of weight, and unloaded its gonna bounce around on the road.
Trust me I've been there, you would be better with a 1-3/4" 5 lug trailer axle, easily capable of 2000lbs and more.

Well in that case you should be fine, those axles hold up to 3500lbs. Truck axles just make lousy trailer axles.

Most 5x10 trailers I've seen break after a couple years. Mainly cause people overload them, bend the axles and bust through the pressure treaded boards of the floor. I've towed allot of.... questionable homemade trailers
I'm lucky if the thing won't blow out my tail lights kinda wiring in some cases.

My dad cut an f150 in half a while back and coveted it to a trailer. He could tow a bed full of concrete with it no problem if that helps. If the frame of the trailer is the same size as a normal truck frame then you should be able to do the same. If its smaller, then the axle will be more then enough for the trailer.
