Those are some good links. especially the second one. That guy in the first one should have had his on the passenger side, looks like he has a lot more pipe across his engine bay than he needs.

I wanted to stay away from round tubes and try to have one thats moulded and roundish. I guess contoured is the more appropriate word.
But If i decide to do a round one I think one 3" tube or even 2.5" would be the best for me. I wanted to use thin walled aluminum and weld the multiple cut pieces to form nice contours and have it fit the window perfect. Grind the welds down after and have a perfectly smooth pipe that I could polish or paint or whatever. Powdercoating it even would be cool. I think utilizing my stock box and having a plug for the hole in fender and a new top for a quick back to stock change would be cool. No mounts on the window just a pad for contact and concealed but sturdy supports in between the tube and fender would be awesome.
Of course that's my truck brotha! I'm welding some suspension things today, and hope to have her on the road by Sunday. I don't have the 4.9, nor would I lift it 16" with a 4.9, there would not be enough power to spin the 41" IROK's. I've got the 5.8L 351W with the E40D trans with an Auburn LSD and Richmond 4.88 Gears. I like your idea about aluminum sheet a lot! I was actually going to do my snorkel coming through the firewall and out of the cowl, then up the windshield post! Mainly b/c I just painted the fenders, and don't feel like cutting a giant hole in them...I don't mind jack'n up my cowl b/c it's not painted yet and painting it after is a breeze. I SURE WILL POST PIX when she's built!

take a look at myalbum for the entire rebuild, from Aug 2010 to current!

Thats pretty cool. I Want to get the auburn Lsd unit. it that the magnetic operated one with the little cones instead of friction plates and operates as a limited slip then when turned on a true locker? I found some for 850 plus I cant remember but around 75 ish shipped to my door. I also think you would be pretty surprised with the torque of the 4.9. With a small turbo and a megasquirt You could be getting some good low end power and still be able to rev up some. I guess depends on how extreme and what type of things you do with the truck. I am going a pretty mild route. 31" tires on it, a level for the front and most likely a winch and bumper for the front. Oh and the locker in the rear. Just a truck To get me around and haul some stuff maybe. But definately be some fun on the way to the camp site style.

Your idea with the cowl sounds really cool. i keep picturing different versions through the cowl and i think any way you do it past the cowl should look pretty good. Im going to check your page i have never seen you post until this thread or i would have looked already.

Black ABS is not UV rated and eventually will become brittle and split/crack.
