Default Any hypermilers on here?

Was just wandering if there are any hypermilers on here. I consider myself one I try my best to drive without brakes and just now I started putting my truck in neutral before stop lights and coasting down hills because in neutral the motor doesn't hold the truck back and it saves gas mileage. I'm currently getting about 17.5 mpg but in the summer I can get up to 21 and I have stock everything. All I have done to my truck is changed the oil and a Fram air filter and changed the plugs and wires. No aftermarket mods. So good gas mileage is definitely capable in these trucks, you just gotta watch how you drive.

With that 4.9, you should be able to get better MPGs in my opinion.

Well that's completely stock. What should I be getting? A lot of people on here get way worse than that with the same motor.

I've been told that if you coast in neutral it uses more fuel than if you coast in gear

I average 16-17 mpg in every tank, pull down 20mpg at a constant 65mph. I also have 195,000 miles on my '91, a 3.08 rear, and 31x10.50 tires. Plus the added weight of my tool box, stereo stuff, and whatever else is in the truck. Weighed it at the scrap yard and saw 4850 with my and a buddy in it. So about 4500 pounds with a half tank of gas.

I do a lot of the same stuff you do, except the neutral deal. I've put 45,000 miles on my front brakes and still have 50% of the pads left, so I think it's safe to say I'm light on my brakes Slow acceleration, slow at slowing down, why waste the gas, my truck is slower than a snail when I nail it so meh. I got a sport bike that gets better mileage!

I never tracked where I gained but I went from 14 mpg to an average of 20 and an all time best of 23 with my previous truck , despite running 35s on a lifted truck.
The big gains came from a combination of a free flowing exhaust, converting to an electric fan, an msd ignition box, and that my commute is free from stops and speed changes for about 40 miles.
The msd let me pull hills in 5th that i had to downshift before , and was well worth gambling on a used box. Lesser gains were synthetic engine and differential oil , but after the synthetic engine oil , I only changed it when it wasn't oily anymore, so the oil cost was offset by leaving it in the engine longer. I would always run between 1500 and 2000 rpms and almost never over 3500.

You sure you're getting that mileage with 35s?
I'm barely getting 13mpg with 33s

I can never do very well with the f150's, I have a 4.9 and a 5.0. Most of my driving is highway and I always end up in the fast lane doing 80. My daughter has a 2000 Saturn sl1 that im doing some work on for her. I'll probably drive it for a month or so as she doesn't need it right now. That car is great you can run the fast lane and get 38 mpg. Ive read some people using better mpg techniques and getting mid 40's. Its cheap too, I'm picking up a set of studded snows for $100 on Friday.

No matter how good the truck does on gas it still can be expensive to drive daily. It's nice to have a puddle jumper.
