Lightbulb Another 4x4 Conversion Thread

Given the truck in my signature, I would love to have 4wd but am in too far to this truck to sell and buy another. I was thinking of doing custom built beams and arms but instead want to do a conversion. I have done a lot of reading up on this but I need opinions on something slightly different. I want to keep my m5od unless I can find a different 5 speed that bolts up to my 300 with no mods. I was thinking of pulling the rest of the drivetrain from an f250 and converting the traction beams to coils. Does this sound feasable for price of parts and doing it myself with a diy shop that I have in town? I was also going to go to a 9 inch rear end with same gearing as the front. If possible could I use everything from an f150 and do spindles from an f250? Basically I want a strong 4wd that I can pretty much abuse and not have to worry about. My dad cracked his front beams with the off road stuff he did and I don't want to have that.

Seems to me if you're going to the trouble of doing coilovers, you might as well go to a solid front axle. Dunno about the 3/4 ton spindles on the half ton TTB but I'm sure somebody will chime in.

I'm looking at swapping myself, the trick just seems to be finding a 4x4 version of the M5oD or a ZF-5 in my area. As far as the frontend, I think it all bolts in as long as you're using 1/2 ton stuff.

Keep in mind some don't see signatures on their phone, like me, so you need to post the year and all. The 8.8 has the speed sensor in the rear, depending on year you need that. The four wheel drive parts bolt right in, but you want the same ratio front and rear so you might need to get both from the same truck.

Sorry I forget about the apps. Its a 94 ext cab 300 m5od with 308 gears. I want to keep ttb because of clearance and how much travel I can get. If it comes down to it, I'm okay with straight f150 parts swap but I just want it to be 100% solid with absolutely no worries.

You can use F250 parts, but you'll need a little more. As far as I know you'll need the spring hangers too because the springs are wider, as well as the obvious parts. You need the VSS for your speedometer and ABS so a 9" is out of the question.

Alright. How do these 8.8s compare if I were to set it up with a four link, coil overs, and let's say 410s or 412s?

On a side note, I will do a walkthrough thread on this after I get everything installed. I'm going to log everything including prices and taking photos. I will do it after because of how long and drawn out it will be. I plan to have everything ready to go by january and hope to get it done by the end of january. If I run into anything I will be sure to mention it on here in hopes to help all of you out.
