Default Alt or voltage reg?

Started last night on the way home. Voltage gauge stays low (on the n in normal or slightly lower) battery reads 12v with truck off, on start up I'm getting 14v at Alt then after driving I'm getting 12 at Alt. About to replace Alt but if it's just the regulator that would save some buck

My Alternator puts out 14.7v.

Regulator is on the back of the Alt from what I've seen, not positive though and I saw it on the parts list when I looked up prices last night

If ymeskie is correct about external regulator, unplug it and jumper the A+ to the F terminal, this should make the alt run at max. And you still need dancing lessons.

I already replaced the alternator. I figured it's three bolts and 5 minutes worth of work. Except I got it from autozone and it started squealing lol. At least it's got a lifetime warranty -sigh-
