Im lookin to get a few things to improve my truck, and was thinkin the air intake, but over in that other thread, those rims sure would look a lot better on my truck than the stock XL Steel rims with the chipping paint...

For under 50$ here is the intake setup Ive had for the past 2 years, exact same setup as the KN system with one improvement. The Air temp sensor in inside the body, not outside. A few pieces of ABS piping, Air Raid filter and some stainless steel brackets.

In all honesty, in the all the years I hot rodded cars at the track, I have NEVER put an air filter system (K&N, cold air or other) that made a hill of beans of difference in the numbers. albeit the stock filter is trash this is your best bet IMO. http://www.slickcar.com/details/2458...ir-filters.asp

Buy this and save your money for other, real, improvements.

Edit: If you want a REAL performance gain you can feel that can be done fairly cost efficiently (if you know the right people) then either buy a new head or have your current one ported and polished with slightly increased valves sizes. It's not a fuel saver, but hardly noticeable in the wallet at the pumps, but very noticeable on the throttle.

Then I'd go headers. Your stock manifold is more than capable at keeping up with the exhaust flow with the stock head. Headers will really only make a difference once you make your engine intake more air, the faster and smoother it goes in, the faster and smoother you want it out.

i don't know about you but i have a K&n high flow air filter it does not add much in the way of performance but its going to be the last one i will ever need i just have to keep ti clean and use that special oil stuff every year or so

I have that filter too, i just keep it around in case i feel like swapping back. numbers may be the same, but i love the look and what i have now works just as well, keep it oiled and i'm set. Plus its got a cool noise when i give it some gas

I have the same filter I posted above on mine, like I said the only real reason is because K&N makes a damn good air filter, but it wasn't bought to jump my 0-60 time like people think it will, it doesn't. It does one thing and does it well, filters air.

I have tried and have had friends back in my 1/4 mile track days do and try every kind of natural air flow tricks you can think of to get 1/100 more of a second, other than a supercharger or turbo, your pretty much throwing money away on anything else you think will give you HP. Believe me, I learned from plenty of disappointment and money spent trying to do it. lol

And yeah, those open K&N's do give you a cool sound when you mash it lol.
