Thumbs up Air Bag Light On

I have an Air bag code that blinks twice, stays off for 5 seconds and then blinks once. Would anyone know what the code is. I would like the peace of mind knowing that the air bag will work, just in case. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My handbook, 1996 F150, says that any blinking of the airbag light means you should have it checked/serviced. It didn't mention anything about patterns to the blinking.

Default huh

Yeah, most of the manuals won't tell you what the codes mean. It does different patterns to tell the service man what is wrong. I know someone on here has to have a sheet or knows what that pattern means. I'm having trouble finding it. If anyone knows please let me know. thank you

Be careful if you choose to work on the airbag system yourself. An unexpected deployment can cause serious injury, as well as necessitate a change of underwear. And replacement airbags aren't cheap.

i had a flashing airbaglight in my 95 f150 when i got it. I was in my fuse box over another issue and noticed that the airbag restrainer fuse was for some reason missing when i put in a new one the flashing stopped. dont know if that helps

I second the comment on being careful around the air bag. It can break your arm (or other precious body part) if it deploys unexpectedly. The Ford manual cautions you to disconnect the positive battery terminal and wait 1 minute (I use 5 min) before trying to disconnect it. There is a backup power source in the system somewhere that can fire the air bag even if the battery is disconnected.

If you have a lit air bag light and your horn and cruise control don't work, or work intermitently, replace the "clock spring" located in the steering column under the air bag. This is a ribbon-like electrical conductor wound like a clock spring that handles current for these functions when turning the steering wheel. It breaks easily and is a common repair on these trucks.

The horn works fine. My truck also didn't come with cruise I think. Its an xl. The original steering column didn't have cruise with no tilt. I put a different column on that has tilt and cruise. The cruise doesn't work though. besides the airbag light i have another problem. The steering wheel likes to move. i can push it around about 1/4 to 1/2 in each way. This one guy at discount tire said he could fix it for me when i had my alignment done. but he said it would cost because you have to take the steering column apart. Does anyone else have this problem? Know how to fix. Its more of an annoyance thing then anything.

My 94 f150 has a light flashing too, it's the "clockspring" (wires that run from horn, airbag, cruise etc.) One of the wires inside the ribbon is broken.

Ok thanks. I'll be looking in there tomarrow. i did look in there and saw a spring that was just on the bottom of the steering column inside all rusted and broke.
