this aint an f150
ok i have a co-worker of mine who has a bronco, and it still runs and drives fine but it wont come out of 4L. He was hauling some pipe one day and its a 5 spd also, with the big bad boy in it, but hauling pipe in the winter and since he has a hole in his front lawn he sunk into it and trying to get out and he heard a slight little pop, and he tryed to get out of 4wd and it wouldnt go out of it, so he thinks it might be a ring inside the tranny that popped, but i wanna make sure for him, becuz i was thinking about buying it form him, so any help would be greatly appreciated
That pop sound is not good...
It could be a simple repair though... never know until disassembled.
Manual Shifter?
or
Push Button?
As you know; the Electronic Shift Push Button Transfer Case has several
electronic components that the manual shift transfer case doesn't have.
Haynes 36058 Chapter 7 - (Borg Warner 13-56 Electronic Shift System)
And I know nothing about them, my 87 TC is manual shift.
Has he tried; slowly backing up in a straight line on soft dirt or sand and
shifting the transmission into neutral, all while trying to get it out of 4-low?
(Not just with the clutch pushed in, but into the neutral position with clutch out)
Sometimes this will unbind the mesh of the TC gears and disengage.
Until he gets it out of 4-low, he could remove the front drive-shaft
so it doesn't bind-up while turning; if the Bronco has Automatic locking hubs.
But tell him not to do any hard pulling while TC is stuck in Low Range without front drive-shaft installed or with the front hubs unlocked.
All I got.
