Can I expect to get any more hp from bigger plug wires and spark plugs?

if yoy want a little more power then advance the timing...ie give it more timing...just dont exceed the fuel or it will ping and kill things...

Detonation....sounds like rocks rattling in the cylinders...basically it is the spark comming to early and the combustion happens premature or the spark exceeds the octane rating for the cylinder temperature...

or you can google it...lol

ping=BAD
if this happens, use higher octane gas
how would I go about advancing the timing?

Smart move! You could write a "Term Paper" on what it is & how many different sets of variables can cause it to occur.
