Default AC Max selction intermittantly changes to Defrost

My 95 F150 AC Max sector switch is set to Max AC, but while in that position it randomly switches between Max AC and defrost without anyone touching the controls. It doesn't have this problem on Normal AC.

Thanks for the help.

Mine did the same. Open the hood and check the air flow valve by the AC evaporator coil. It's right by the firewall in the corner passenger side. The vacuum line on mine deteriorated. Patched line with vacuum hose. Easy to get to.

Found it but your right its in bad shape. Crumbling really badly. I put a temp fix in but I expect the entire line to fall apart. where does the line actually go to inside the bundle of tape?

Thanks

Not sure how far into the bundle it goes. I peeled it back till I found a solid section and cut it. Went to the auto parts place and got the smallest i.d. vacuum hose. It fit snug over the cut end and also onto the valve. That was it.
I'm new to this board and haven't tried posting a pic yet. If need be I'll try.

I agree, I think I'm having the same issue, there's something screwy with my controls right now.

I'll be glad to post a picture. If I can figure it out. I'll try.
Oops kind a big. The hose has a 1/8" I.D. About $1. Hardest part was getting the Ford hose off the vacuum solenoid by the firewall. As you can see I cut back the bundle about 2 inches to find something solid to attach to.

Yeah, by the time these vehicles get more than 10 years old, stuff like hoses begin to deteriorate and fail. My little '92 Miata started blowing all kinds of hoses about that time... Not a good thing if you blow a radiator or heater hose while on the road somewhere. Better start changing those things pro-actively.

Thanks for the pics! I'm new here, and I joined to find the solution to this problem. Would this apply to a 2002 model?
