Default ABS/Brake Light....

My abs/brake light just came on while i was driving..when i got home n got out of my truck there was smoke coming from my rear brakes n smelt...any ideas?


-95 f150 4.9l 2wd

One idea, yes. Sounds like the rear brake is locking up which would cause the smoke and smell. Gotta pull the drum off to see why. (Blown brake cylinder? Broken adjustment cable? Who knows) Whatever happened may have broken the abs sensor on that wheel and triggered the light.

I was w/ ya till the last sentence. The sensor is mounted on top of the differential. Low fluid level can trigger the light's, but doesn't explain the lock up.

I had the same thing happen on my 91 I did a brake job new shoes wheel cylinders springs. It happened again it turned out to be the master cylinder. it was not leaking but something in the resavor not working rite.

i might just replace the brakes (drums,shoes,wheel cylinder) before i even think about the master cylinder....

Sorry, you are right. What I meant was that something's wrong and whatever happened has probably triggered the light. You'll have to open it up to find out for sure. My bad.

Proportioning valve. Which can cause rear wheel lock up.

i wouldnt say there locking up i dont fell any drag driving or tires skidding...they were just smoking and smelt like...brakes lol
