Default 96 window crank???

OK, this might sound dumb to alot of you, but the qwindow cranks on my 96 don't appear to have that little horseshoe shaped clip that other older ford cars do. I pushed in on the panel and the plastic housing mates with a steel shaft. no sign of any clip to use my nifty tool on. what is the secret of the 96 crank. I need to change the door locks. thanks, tony

Pop the skin of the door handle up and theres a screw in the center that runs into the center of that steel shaft.

Lol, yep. And vw/audi/porsche are now using 5 point tamper proof bits, instead of the common 6 point torx. Ill never know why manufacturers need to do stuff like that

Well, we wouldn't want just anybody to break into our trucks and steal our window crank. lol. I'm with ya. You need a special tool for a window crank, but they essentially made a quick disconnect for the radio. Way to go boys.

If you guys think torx bits are "special" tools then you obviously don't wrench much! Lol

just to update, removed crank cover which was a little tricky and had to buy a set of 1/4 drive torx sockets. crank screw is a T-15. After that, panel was a piece of cake to remove and new locks went in with no glitches. Quick question? why does it seem that about 1/2 the underhood hardware is metric and the rest SAE. was this a transition yr.? thanks for the help, tony
