Default 96 vs 97

looking for some advice, I am between a 96 -150 in Nashville (10hours away) for 4500 and a 97 Locally for 2700. Both are 4wd and have about 180k. Love the look of the 96, and a buddy (who worked in the Ford Plant in Norfolk) says a rust free 96 is worth the trip. any thoughts.

Pics would be nice. All things being equal, I would go for the 97. 10 hours each way to see a pig in a poke is not for me and the 97 is much less.

I'd rather have a 9th gen OBS...even though I'm not a big fan of the 10th gens, I'd take one if it's a Lightning....

I appreciate the feedback. the 96 is so sharp I almost worry about using it as a work truck... Wife and I bought 10 acres and plan to do a lot of clearing and planting. I now it is a beast but is just beautiful. Wonder if the 97 may not hurt as bad to beat up.

Thanks for your feedback.

I appreciate your thoughts. Work in insurance and as think of having an Appraiser to take a peek under the hood and under it for rust. Also. direct airfare if under 100 dollars.

Thanks for your thoughts.

If it were me, I'd use the truck as a work truck, except maybe for the really rough stuff...then I'd use a trailer. Funny, my wife complimented me yesterday saying how nice my truck was looking....

Seems like you'd want to base a decision on more than just year, model, 4WD, and location. Drivetrain and its quality might be important. Same engine and transmission?

well 96 is a v6 manual.... the 97 is a V8 Triton 4.6....really partial to the 96 year, but hard to find on on the East coast not all eaten up with rust.
