Default '89 fuel pump issues

hey all, got a little bit of a problem i'm hoping to get some help with. here's what's going on.

1989 f150
300 I6
5 speed
4wd
single fuel tank

i bought this truck about 3 weeks ago & it's been doing fine up until a couple days ago. i did a tune up on it sunday afternoon - new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor button. it ran fine that evening, probably drove her around 15 miles. i went out the next morning and it wouldn't start.

first thing i did was recheck my work from the previous day. i checked the wires, cap, etc and it was all fine.

i noticed when i turned the key on, that my high pressure fuel pump didn't kick on like it usually does. it's easy to hear since it's right under the floor board. i tried the key a few more times and nothing. i had a friend lay under the gas tank and listen, and my rear fuel pump isn't kicking on either.

so, i started with the cheapest thing & replaced the relay, to no avail. next i replaced my high pressure pump, and still nothing. i'm holding out that it's not the pump in the fuel tank, but i am out of ideas. i had some people tell me to check the fuses, which i did. i couldn't find any fuses related to the fuel system, but the ones i did check were all fine.

i'm just wondering, if the fuel pump in the tank went bad, shouldn't the high pressure pump still kick on? the relay is working - you can hear it click when the ignition is turned on. i checked all the ground wires i could find and they were all fine, too.

i'm just hoping to get some input before i spend a hundred bucks on a new fuel pump i might not need.

It's not on a fuse it's on a fusible link, bolted to the solenoid. Check the inertia switch too above the brake pedal on the firewall.

i'm not sure if i can check the fusible link, but it was plugged in & looks fine.

there is no inertia switch on the truck. the previous owner said it went bad, so he removed it & bypassed it.

for what it's worth, i checked the terminals on my high pressure pump with a volt tester & didn't get a reading.

Check the fusible link for continuity.

update

i tested what i think is the fusible link - it plugs in to the top of the coil - and the terminals on the coil end read 12.1 volts.

i replaced my fuel pump in the fuel tank and i am now getting fuel up to the inline fuel filter (which i also replaced). the truck still won't start.

both the fuel pump & eec relays are working.

Okay, now test the fusible link. It's bolted to the solenoid as I said.

It looks just like a wire. The smaller wires on the solenoid are all fusible links except the start wire.

here's a picture of my solenoid. i checked the 3 fusible links bolted to the positive terminal, and they were all good. i didn't disconnect them from the solenoid to test them.

How did you test them? There will be 12v at the nut, you have to make sure 12v makes it through it.
