Okay. Thanks. Would you happen by chance to know what the clutch operation is? Ie. Hydraulic or mechanical? If either, what all components are involved with one or the other?

I'm not 100% familiar with the 4spd, I know its external hydraulic slave system. You will need the pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder system for that tranny. Not sure what length of drive shaft you will need. Ohh and the starter thats compatible with the flywheel and bell housing.

If your hoping to install this 4 speed and have a better hi way gear then probably not a good idea.

The old 4 speeds are really a 3 speed with a low first gear. You won't gain any top end over your C6.

Dang. Well thanks for the info. That's why I ask y'all these things. Haha. I'm fixin to get a tach and see what I'm really running on the highway. Then there's some used 33"s on Craigslist I was thinking bout snatching up. Guy only wants $250 for em. Decent tread. But they're not really aggressive at all. My three options are AOD, 5 spd, or C6 with 33"s. I'm probably gonna end up getting 33s in the long run either way I go. Thanks for the help y'all

I'd go with the 5spd, either the M5OD or ZF. The mazda is a great all purpose trans for town/highway and light duty to med duty towing depending on your clutch setup.

Or if your lucky enough to find a ZF trans, bulkier and slightly slower on shift, but its heavy duty.

The 3.55s and 35s were ideal for me, but, I tend to drive feloniously fast.
If i were swapping a from an auto, I don t think a zf would be a bargain, if you figured the cost over a mazda five speed, which are near indestructable in my experince, as i have only broken two, both 1989 models, the earlier ones were easy to shift into reverse while rolling forward, normal people don t do that, the one in my blue truck has been brutally abused, and still works fine. The four speed would be nice in a trail truck with bigger tires, because of the creeper gear, but maybe not the best for a daily driver, plus the creeper gear will break stuff , which breaks just fine with the mazda tranny, either or, a stick and a six is more fun than a slushy c6.

Ended up picking up those used 33"s for $100. The rpms settled down a good bit and they clear just fine other than a little radius arm rubbing at full lock. Probably going to end up selling my 16" wheels and tires to get a brand new set of 33 12.50 15 Cooper Discover STTs.
