Exclamation 5.0 running rough

Recently my truck has started having some idling/ rough running issues:

About 3 months ago, truck was running fine. Drove it to a friends house, left it there all day, that night it wouldn't start. Tried to start it for about an hour, no luck. Came back the next day, truck started up first try, but wouldn't idle for more than about 2-4 minutes. I left the truck parked, until I replaced the cap and rotor. Started truck, drove home without any noticeable issue. Following weekend, drove truck on two 20 mile one-way trips, and truck has an occassional "miss", it feels like the engine shuts off for a split second, jerks hard, and continues as normal. between the two trips, this happened maybe 3-4 times, and the engine died at a stoplight twice, but fired right back up.

Haven't moved the truck since, but now need to get it running good ASAP.

My guess is that its the pcv valve, or maybe idle air control valve?
I have been searching the forums for about a month, but I haven't seen anyone else have the same issue.

Maintanence info about the truck:
8 months ago: plugs and wires replaced.
5 months ago: fuel pump replaced in front tank, fuel filter replaced.
Rear tank was rusted through, so it was removed, fuel lines capped and electrical connector covered.

I appreciate any info

I just recently purchased an 88' F150 XLT Lariat and it's having some similar issues. Not sure the proper fix just yet but taking it to the shop tomorrow to run some diagnostics. Will report my findings. Truck only has 100k on it so it's low miles on the engine for that year.

Have you checked for codes. Also check the fuel pressure I think it should be around 35-45 psi. A couple of other things you might want to look in to are the TFI module and the pick up coil down in the distributor

Fuel pressure was checked by a buddy and is ok, seems like an electrical issue to both of us

hope those items work for you. A buddy of mine had a 92 with the I6 in it. it had identical symptoms he spent about $800 in replacing parts (including the cap and rotor) before changing the distributor. after that no issues at all. could be the distributor.
