Default 4x4 question

Greetings, looked at this site several times. Thought it was time to join! I have a '93 f150 4x4 auto hubs with 5.0 engine. Bought it 4 yrs ago from original owner after an awful snow storm. Last week, here in Ky. had an awful snow/ice storm. Jumped in the truck ,finally going to use the 4 wheel drive after 4 yrs of no snow. Pushed the 4x4 hi button. Nothing! Put trans. in neutral, pushed 4x4 low, nothing! I know the 4x4 works,(or worked) in this truck when I bought it. The truck is in excellent condition with 102,000 miles. I know auto hubs aren't popular on this site, but it's what I've got! Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

The reason they are not popular is they fail. You can convert to manual hubs for < $100. I purchased mine from Mile Marker.

See thread https://www.f150forum.com/showthread.php?t=17410 about auto hubs. See this thread about replacing the hubs, https://www.f150forum.com/f10/converting-auto-manual-hubs-a1996-f150-17063/ about replacing hubs.

Thanks for your response. I just hit the 4x4 button and no light, no clicking, no nothing. I hit the button several times, nothing. Thought maybe a blown fuse, bad switch, something along that line. Don't know.

Could be a fuse. The push buttons ( possibly all) as the owners manual says should be put into 4WD once a month or so (if you don't use it you lose it). The electric actuator motor tends to fail or plugs corode.

on the auto hubs on our model year ('93) you have to engage the hubs or they dont work like they said ^^^^.
but i dont have the push buttons, mines manual on the floor direct to the box.

im not big on transmissions, just on suspensions and engines.

Thanks for the advice. Guess when all else fails, read the owners manual! ha!
