Default 4X4 Lever Question

I can't get the 4x4 lever past 4 high; I pushed down, to the side, anyway I could but can't get it past 4 high. Am I mentally challenged or do you think there is a problem with my transfer case? Help is greatly appreciated.

Are you putting the transmission in neutral while you push to the side and down? That's the only way to get it into 4lo

Yea I've tried it in neutral and in gear. When you push down on the shifter it just clicks back into 2 high, it doesn't seem like it should push down. Now I don't know if the 4x4 high is working, when I turn with it engaged there's a loud clunking and rattling noise.

Put your transfercase in 4 high but leave you hubs unlocked, then reach under the truck and try to spin the front driveshaft by hand. If it spins freely, then your transfer case is nto going into 4wd

You can try leaving the t-case in 2wd but lock your hubs in, then try to spin the driveshaft to see if there is anything wrong with your front end. But with it not going into 4 low, I would think the problem has to be in the transfer case. Mabye pull your drain plug out for a second and see if any metal shavings or anything come out?

Soak your tcase linkage in penetrating fluid rotten things were known for seizing up and not letting a person into 4lo. Also I think that there is a grease fitting on the linkage...dont everyone jump down my throat if im thinkin of somethin else. I soak my down regularly with Deep Creep its made by Sea Foam its amazing stuff!

Found my problem

Where the shifter rod attaches to the shifter assembly the connector thing was broken, someone tried to fix it with a hose clamp. The hose clamp worked well enough to allow me to put it in 4 high but it wasn't tight enough to let me push it down. Now all I gotta do is get a new piece for it (hopefully that will fix it).

I've learned today that this fix is going to be more expensive than I thought, the part at the dealer is $300 and I found one at a junkyard for $150. Seems to be a common problem, if this has happened to anyone else I was wondering which route you went. Thanks in advance.
