Default 4x4 disengage problem

Today was using 4 wheel low around the property a little. I shut the truck off before I turned off 4x4. Go to leave again and 4x4 won't disengage. It took me unplugging battery and tapping the 4x4 shift motor with a wrench before it worked... Don't know if either one of these actually did the trick. So is it a pita to replace that motor if need be? And is this a common problem?

Have you used low before and do you know the proper way to disengage? You didn't mention it in your post, but a lot of people don't know how.

Iv used low a few times before. As for proper way to engage and disengage I put in neutral on a flat stop engage and put in drive.
