Default 4.9L E4OD Trans Problem

So I just bought this truck for 750 bucks and so far I'm thinking it is a total steal for that price. Except for the trans.

Heres whats going on, First off it shifts very hard into reverse. It seems like it halfway engages in reverse and then a second later there is a hard kick of it going into reverse.

Second and the main issue is it trying to shift from 1st to 2nd. If i try to accelerate continuously it won't shift into second. But I can let off the gas a lot and it'll drop right in. The other solution is to shift it from D to 2nd and it shifts as if there is nothing wrong with it. Im hoping this is just an electrical issue that someone can point me towards.

3rd issue is that the fluid is burnt. Allegedly the trans was recently rebuilt. I'm wondering what would cause it to burn the fluid for being rebuilt. I'm not good with transmissions so i have no guess.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Try changing the fluid, if that does not work then most likely it is a bad rebuild. Ford trannies like fresh fluid.

I know i've seen online that they take a lot of transmission fluid. I was looking to change the pan because it is dented up a bit, will it take all like 18 quarts that i've been reading online

Any chance this problem is electrical? I noticed this weekend that when i try to press the overdrive button on the shifter that it does nothing??? Any wires i need to look for or areas to check for damaged wires or bad connections?

Try changing the fluid (I recommend Valvoline Maxlife. I tried cheap stuff in my E4OD and had all kinds of shift problems) and replace the neutral switch on the side of the transmission.
